Considered as a pioneer of the hardboiled genre, Shoji Yuki has resigned from his post at the Prosecutor Office in 1960 to become a full-time writer. He has written hardboiled, spy novels, crime comedies, police procedural, etc. He won the Mystery Writers of Japan Award in 1963 for 夜の終る時 and the Naoki Prize in 1970 for 軍旗はためく下に.

First book in the Sergeant Gohara series and an entertaining whodunnit.
This collection of novella and short stories gives a good insight into the challenges faced by the police in the 60s. Recommended!
