Genre: Adventure

Cover of 伝説なき地, showing a river winding through trees in the sunset light. The river is a bright orange, so is the sky. The trees surrounding the river are pitch black.

Book review: 『伝説なき地』by Yoichi Funado

Even though this book won the Mystery Writers of Japan Award, it is hard to classify it as “mystery”. It is a fast pace thriller/adventure with a good dose of violence and suspense. I personally enjoyed it much more than I expected.

Cover of 天山を超えて. There is a drawing of a desert with a dune of sand on the foreground. On top of the dune, there is a man riding a camel. There are other characters riding camels visible behind the dune and coming towards us. In the background, a mountain range covered in snow.

I finished 无证之罪 by 紫金陈 (The Untouched Crime by Zijin Chen, translated by Michelle Deeter)!
Not only was it 100% the kind of stories I enjoy reading, but it was also easy to read, and using vocabulary I’m familiar with.
It reminded me of Keigo Higashino, not just because the pattern and style felt similar, but because Higashino is the first author I read in Japanese. Now I have a similar experience with Chinese!
